Why Locals Love VJ's Drive Inn

Nestled in the heart of Winnipeg at 170 Main Street, VJ's Drive Inn is a cherished cornerstone of the local hamburger and American fast-food scene. This no-frills eatery delivers nostalgia-infused flavors that have captivated generations of burger lovers. VJ’s Drive Inn is not just about a quick bite—it’s an experience steeped in tradition and pure, honest taste.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the V.J.’S Special and its hearty counterpart, the V.J.’S Double Special. These signature burgers boast perfectly seasoned homemade patties layered with just the right balance of chili, fresh produce, and thoughtfully crafted sauces. Bite after bite, they reveal a satisfying explosion of flavors that linger long after the meal ends. Alongside these iconic burgers, you can indulge in classic options like the Dbl Ham & Cheese, Cheese Dog, or the ever-popular French Fries cooked to crispy perfection, fulfilling that crave-worthy fast-food comfort.

For those with a sweet tooth, VJ’s offers an inviting selection of creamy shakes and desserts. Choose from luscious flavors such as Pina Colada, Strawberry, Mango, Butterscotch, and Root Beer—each sip thick, smooth, and refreshingly indulgent. Their ice cream cones and sundaes provide a delightful cool-down against the bustling city streets.

Dine al fresco in their classic outdoor seating area, where the vibe stays laid-back and old-school—just as VJ's has always been. The quick, efficient pick-up service paired with the authentic, slightly rough-around-the-edges charm through the service window adds character and intimacy to your visit. It’s an experience that some may find unpolished but undeniably genuine, reflecting Winnipeg’s rich local history and culture.

Reviewers like Tim Chu commend the mastery behind the burgers, highlighting the “truly special” blend of ingredients, while others, including Kia S, appreciate the bold flavors despite minor imperfections in ambiance. For many, like Jeihzee Dayrit, VJ’s Drive Inn isn’t just a meal—it’s a heartfelt tradition, a local gem where every bite resonates with love and history.

Whether you’re a Winnipeg native or a traveler seeking an authentic fast-food experience steeped in local nostalgia, VJ’s Drive Inn invites you to savor a piece of the city’s culinary soul. With reasonable pricing and a menu packed full of classic favorites, this humble spot will make you appreciate the art of a well-crafted burger.

They know their burgers! The service is "lacking" because this is a pick up location with an outdoor dining area. Gotta love their attitude through the window, old school, may be a little bit too rough for some. Burger wise, their special is truly special. A good balance of chili, patty, produce, and sauces. Go all in, you will thank them right away.

For a long time, I heard everyone talking about VJ’s burgers, so I finally gave it a try. I was surprised by the taste! I tried their special burger and really liked it but the French fries were disappointment. The place isn’t exactly big on hygiene, which might be a turn-off for some, but if you’re there for the flavor, it’s definitely worth a try. They now accept credit cards.

A true gem in Winnipeg’s burger scene! My boyfriend and I had the absolute pleasure of trying VJ’s Double Special—and let me tell you, it was nothing short of a heavenly experience! The burger was an explosion of flavor in every bite, made with perfectly seasoned homemade patties that melted in our mouths. You can truly taste the love and tradition in each layer—it’s not just a burger, it’s a love letter to comfort food. The aroma alone is enough to draw you in from blocks away. Juicy, meaty, rich, and grilled to perfection—every bite whispered “come back soon.” The service was quick, the vibe nostalgic, and the quality unmatched. In a city full of burger joints, VJ’s Drive Inn stands tall like a legend—a place where cravings are fulfilled, and taste buds sing. We’re already planning our next visit. This is a place that reminds you why burgers became a classic in the first place. Highly, highly recommended!

Great first experience at VJ's. Took order fast, meal was incredibly fast and fresh. The burgers and hotdogs were near perfectly dressed. Little heavy on lettuce for me but it's a learning curve and I will definitely be back. Pricing was very reasonable. The fries.... You get fries and they are cooked exactly as they should be.

A classic fast-food institution with tons of online buzz Double Cheeseburger – The beef patty leans a bit salty, but the pickles help balance it out nicely Fries – Surprisingly the highlight! Ordered no-salt, perfectly crispy and super satisfying Best part? Portions are generous — no one leaves hungry

A hole in the wall which is known for their special burgers with special sauces, made before your eyes, served fresh from the hot grill.
